'Cards Against Extinction' is a project initiated by Brisbane based artist and designer Sabine Carter. She is part of the 'Art Against Extinction Collective, a group of environmentally minded artists and activists. They engage in art making to express their concerns about the state of the natural environment and the plight of non-human species. The hand-printed activist artist cards express the love for nature and the despair at its continuous destruction.

A manifesto
We are moving against the flow. The flow is fast; it is business-as-usual; it is speeding up with the use of artificially generated content meant to maintain, distract and disenfranchise. Through the power of collective making, and the intent slowing-down of the creative process, we are harnessing our empathetic energies.
We live in an oversaturated, digital world; our cards might be drowned or lost, like all the invisible species that get lost every day; they mirror the hidden exodus, the default mode of distracted urban existence that has lost sight of the small and the bigger picture. Our cards sprout like green shoots in the cracks of concrete, defying the hyper digital, non-tangible consumption of tailored content. They are meant to be found; they either trigger or get discarded, they engage or they vanish. |
